MAGI 1.1: Status Effect Rework

PATCH 1.1 : Status Effect Rework

This game has been updated! With the introduction of Patch 1.1, I've made a small overhaul to the status effect system that should greatly help with playability:

  • Status effects no longer have set durations that "tick" with each turn. Instead, they are given a strength value that can range anywhere from 2-5.
  • At each End of Round, characters who have active status effects roll 1d6 per status effect and line the position of the dice with how they are arranged on the character sheet.
  • If the die result is equal to or less than the effect's strength, the effect persists another round. If it is higher, the effect falls off this round.
  • Spell upgrades that allow for spells to target multiple targets or to make their duration stronger now affect the strength of the effect rather than the duration, making them more or less likely to fall off during End of Round
  • Status effects that stack on top of each other now take the higher strength, or, if the strength is equal to or less than the existing effect, the strength of the existing effect increases by 1, to a maximum of 5.
  • Enemies inflict status effects with a strength of 3 by default, but can have higher strengths at the GM's discretion.

This overhaul is meant to make battles more chaotic, and to reduce the amount of writing and erasing that happens between rounds.
